Spicing It Up Doesn't Fix It ...

can swinging really save a couple?

Dear readers, let’s talk today about a big social question… or at least, a question that comes up often when boredom starts poking its nose out from under the covers.

The scene is classic: the couple is on the rocks, routine has settled in comfortably between the ironing and the evening series, and suddenly, an idea is born: “What if we tried swinging?”

So let’s be clear right away: can swinging save a relationship in trouble? The answer is a resounding “NO.”

The art of confusing a fire extinguisher with a bottle of oil

Bringing new partners into your intimate life to ‘save what can be saved’ is a bit like throwing a bottle of oil on a fire in an attempt to put it out. The intention may be original, but the result is likely to be explosive.

If you do it because your relationship is going badly, swinging won’t be a remedy; it will be a crisis accelerator. Why? Because in 99% of cases where people try the experience out of sheer desperation, one of the two always feels pressured into it. They agree ‘to please the other person,’ ‘not to lose them,’ or ‘to play the modernity card’… But forcing yourselves to share the person you love when the relationship is already shaky is the best way to make jealousy skyrocket and tensions turn toxic.

Spicing It Up vs. Renovating

Now, let’s not assume bad intentions. Swinging can be an exciting adventure, a complicit and fulfilling game. But only on one condition: the house is already solid.

  • To spice things up? Yes. If the couple’s foundations are reinforced concrete, communication is excellent, and the desire is 100% mutual, adding a little spice to the menu can be a very nice experience.

  • To save what can be saved? No. If the house is taking on water and the foundations are cracking, adding guests to the bedroom won’t seal the leaks in the living room!

In short

Swinging is a bonus for a couple that’s doing very well, certainly not a ambulance for a couple in the ICU.

So before downloading specialized apps or booking a weekend in a swingers club, ask yourself the real question: are we looking to share a pleasure as a couple, or are we desperately trying to escape our problems? If it’s the second option, a good, honest conversation (or even couples therapy) will always cost less in tissues and domestic dramas!
