Equality is not an option, it's a right! Today, all across France, a demonstration took place to urge the government to take responsibility in order to #protect children and women, people with vaginas. The numbers are alarming: - 160,000 children are victims of incest or sexual violence every year, i.e. 438 children a day, yes, a day! - a child is the victim of rape or sexual assault every 3 minutes; - 3 children per class are victims of #sexualviolence; - only 3% of perpetrators in cases of sexual violence (97% of them men) are convicted. That figure drops to 1% in incest cases. (source: https://www.vie-publique.fr) - 1,283 women were victims of (attempted) femicide within a relationship, direct or indirect, in 2024. - 376,000 women aged 18 and over, in 2023, were victims of physical, verbal or psychological and/or sexual violence within a relationship. (source: https://arretonslesviolences.gouv.fr) We, #women, people with vaginas, have just as much right to feel safe as men do. Inequalities are still far too big. That's why feminism has every right to have a place in our society. Amnesty International defines #feminism as "the belief that women have the right to political, economic and social equality. Feminism works to ensure that women can fully enjoy their rights, on an equal footing with men." It's not about wanting to take power, to dominate men, it's about having the same rights so that we can truly live in harmony and as equals. Each of our voices, each of our daily actions in this direction as women, people with vaginas, matters if we want to shift the lines. And you, what do you do every day to unlearn and challenge the norms around you?
